Abstract

This article examines the theoretical and methodological foundations of using virtual laboratory environments and simulation tools in teaching the “Computer Networks” course, as well as their practical advantages in the educational process. The use of virtual laboratories enables students to study the operation of network devices, routing, switching, segmentation, and network protocol functions in conditions that closely resemble real environments. The study provides a comparative analysis of widely used simulation platforms such as Cisco Packet Tracer, GNS3, and EVE-NG, discussing their role in the learning process, functional capabilities, resource requirements, and potential for developing professional competencies.
