“Clinical Masks of Hypothyroidism: Manifestations Across Different Age Groups and Association with Vitamin D Deficiency”

Published: 2026-04-18

Abstract

Hypothyroidism is one of the most frequently underdiagnosed endocrine disorders due to the diversity of its clinical manifestations. The disease often presents under the guise of somatic, neurological, and psychiatric disorders, resulting in delayed diagnosis and treatment initiation. Variation in the clinical presentation according to patient age poses a particular diagnostic challenge: functional and asthenic symptoms predominate in younger individuals, whereas in older patients, hypothyroidism may mimic cardiovascular or neurodegenerative disease.
