THE CONCEPT SPHERE OF THEODORE DREISER'S NOVEL “THE FINANCIER” AS A REFLECTION OF THE ECONOMIC CONSCIOUSNESS OF THE ERA

Abstract

This article presents the concept sphere of Theodore Dreiser's novel The Financier in terms of representing the economic consciousness of American society at the end of the 19th to the beginning of the 20th century. Studies focused on analyzing individual literary concepts, this research aims to identify systemic connections between key concepts that form the ideological-semantic structure of the work. Particular attention is given to the concepts of "money," "power," "success," and the "American Dream," along with their cognitive interactions. It is shown that money in the novel functions not as an autonomous value, but as the core of a complex the concept sphere that defines the characters' worldview and the narrative logic. The conclusion is drawn that the artistic world of the novel reflects the transformation of traditional ethical norms under the influence of capitalist ideology.
