Annotatsiya

Dumping syndrome (DS) is a postoperative functional and metabolic disorder caused by the accelerated passage of hyperosmolar gastric contents into the small intestine following surgical interventions involving the upper gastrointestinal tract (Al-Jafari et al., 2023). Late dumping syndrome is accompanied by pronounced disturbances in postprandial carbohydrate metabolism and the development of hypoglycemia due to an excessive insulin response to the rapid delivery of carbohydrates into the small intestine. Although the syndrome has been studied in considerable detail in adult patients, DS remains a relatively rare and underdiagnosed condition in pediatric practice (Dellaportas et al., 2025). Data on the development of DS in children following esophagectomy are particularly limited, with the international literature consisting predominantly of isolated clinical observations and small case series (Garritano et al., 2017; Saleem et al., 2020). In children, this condition is of particular clinical significance because recurrent episodes of hypoglycemia may adversely affect neurocognitive development and quality of life.
