Abstract

In contemporary methods of teaching literature, there is an increasing interest in the problem of developing students’ spiritual and emotional responsiveness. This trend is driven both by sociocultural transformations-manifested in the processes of pragmatization, technologization, and digitalization of the educational environment-and by the regulatory and legal guidelines of national educational policy, which emphasize the spiritual and moral development of learners. Our study presents a model of spiritual and emotional intelligence within the context of reading culture, incorporating a system of corresponding skills. This allows us to propose a definition of the concept adapted to the methodology of teaching literature. The identification and systematization of these skills within the structure of emotional intelligence ensure the conceptual integrity and gradual formation of this phenomenon, as well as the methodological consistency of pedagogical techniques aimed at fostering students’ spiritual and emotional domains.
Using the example of Andrei Platonov’s short story “Yushka” (8th grade), the paper reveals the heuristic and developmental potential of methodological tools for cultivating spiritual and emotional intelligence-specifically, the “Two-Part Journal,” “Empathy Map,” and “Cloze Test.” Their integration into the process of literary interpretation contributes not only to the intensification of students’ emotional and sensory experience, but also to a deeper comprehension of value orientations regarded as a structural component of literary education and personal self-development.
