Abstract

We present a method for preparing adapted lecture materials and structured learning tasks in geology for students with heterogeneous subject and language backgrounds. The method combines stepwise processing of source text and graphics, identification of the conceptual core of a topic, alignment of terminology, consideration of academic timing, and task design as a continuation of the lecture. The results show that the combination of adapted text, visual supports and a two-part task increases the accessibility of complex material and facilitates the transition from comprehension to practical use.
